IT'S NOT EASY BEING A NAZI
(BARON GüTHART'S SONG TO HIS FACTORY WORKERS)

CHORUS:
Some say that this war has been hard on the Jews
But nobody sees that it’s hard on me, too!
It’s not easy being a Nazi!

It’s true that I have everything that I want
    Money and power galore
But when my closest friends call me Herr Commandant
It gets to be kind of a bore!

I used to have plenty of people I liked
Who’d invite me to parties and balls
But since I’ve become very big in the Reich
    They never return my calls!

Some say that this war has been hard on the Jews
But nobody sees that it’s hard on me, too!
It’s not easy being a Nazi!

My factory used to make lovely tin toys
And a doll with a dress you took off it
But now we make bullets for our fighting boys
I’m just barely turning a profit!

Sure, the labor is plentiful, ready, and cheap
But I train ‘em, and none of ‘em stays
The rate of employee turnover is steep
So I just can’t find good help these days!

Some say that this war has been hard on the Jews
But nobody sees that it’s hard on me, too!
It’s not easy being a Nazi!

My favorite hors d’oeuvre is hot matzo ball soup
With a side of some fish that’s gefilte’d
But since my chef Chaim has now flown the coop
    My appetite, frankly, has wilted.

Sure, we have conquered both Poland and France
With bombing and raiding and strafing
But my tailor’s in hiding and I can’t get new pants
So my poor Nazi buttocks are chafing!

Some say that this war has been hard on the Jews
But nobody sees that it’s hard on me, too!
Sometimes I just don’t know what I should do
To make you all realize I’m worse off than you…
It’s not easy being a Nazi!
